The New York State Department of Labor’s Joint Enforcement Task Force on Employee Misclassification’s Report issued in February includes a number of interesting enforcement statistics from that state, including:
- Over 20,200 instances of employee misclassification were identified
- Discovered over $282.5 million in unreported wages
- Assessed over $9.7 million in unemployment insurance contributions
The Task Force emphasized construction with 18 investigations which resulted in:
- Identification of 1,700 misclassified workers
- Discovery of nearly $15.8 million in unreported wages
- Assessment of $644,500 in unemployment contributions
